Fearn, Wilmot Irving

Born Stocksbridge Sheffield, Yorkshire, 1883. Son of Lewis Enoch Fearn (1865-1898) and Lavinia Adelaide Mann (1861-1920). He  had two brothers and two sisters.

Married 2 Sep 1905 • Gawber, St Thomas, Yorkshire. Husband of Norah Sutcliffe Firth (1886–1968). Worked as a coal miner, living at Giggal Row Higham Barnsley (1911 Census).

He enlisted at Barnsley, Yorkshire. Served in the 1/5th York & Lancashire regiment. Killed in action on 13 Oct 1918, aged 35. Buried at York Cemetery, Haspres, France. Haspres is a village about 15 kilometres north-east of Cambrai and about the same distance south-west of Valenciennes.

His army effects were left to his widow Norah and three children, Joshua, Hilda and Emily, at 16, Hilton Street, Beverley, East Yorkshire (war pension address) – 29/7 shillings weekly.

His brother, (phot left) – Pte, Joseph Edward Fearn (1889-1916) 13/1486, 14th York & Lancs (2nd Barnsley Pals), was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, aged 27.
