Born Atwick, Yorkshire, 1896. Son of John W Hill and Caroline Hill, of 3. Papers Yard, Keldgate, Beverley, East Yorkshire (war pension address).
He enlisted at Beverley. Formerly 2972, Yorkshire Regiment. Transferred to the 1st 5th Battalion (Territorial Force), South Staffordshire Regiment. Killed in action, at Bellenglise, St Quentin Canal, Hindenburg Line, France, on 28 Sep 1918. he was aged 22. Commemorated on the Vis-En -Artois Memorial, France.
His elder brother, Private, Robert James Hill, 11/94, 13th East Yorkshire regiment, was killed at Serre, on 13 Nov 1916, aged 23.
