Goodwin, George Mayen

Born Birkenhead, Cheshire, 1885. Son of Charles Samuel Goodwin (1847-1893) and Mary Jane Mayen Penwill (1863-1923).

Enlisted in the army, on 16 Nov 1906. Served overseas, as Acting Corporal, 8420, 1st & 2nd East Yorkshire Regiment. Discharged with wounds, on 25 Jan 1916.

Married at Beverley in 1916. Husband of Maud Beechius Everington (1885-1975). They had one son, George (1916-2002) and lived at Queensgate, Beverley, East Yorkshire (war pension records).

Awarded the Silver War Badge (No: 103784). Died of wounds, on 26 Mar 1922, aged 36. His widow moved to Sheffield and returned to Beverley where she died.

He is commemorated on the Beverley WW1 Memorial.
