Honeyman, Edgar Hall

E. H. Honeyman is commemorated on the Beverley WW1 Memorial. His surname was actually spelt Honneyman, of Westfield, Beverley and Market Rasen, Lincolnshire. His father was an organist and professional leader of vocal instrumental music.

Edgar Hall Honneyman was born in Beverley, Yorkshire, on 4 January 1889. Son of John William Honneyman (1857-1913) and Harriet Frances Holgate Gedney (1854-1900). He had five sisters and one brother, Walter Honneyman (1885-1929). all born in Beverley.

Edgar emigrated to Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on 30 Apr 1906, aged 17. Employed as a Bookkeeper. He served three years in the Territorial Canadian Field Ambulance,

He was a single man. Described as 5 foot 6 inches tall, 36 inch chest, grey eyes, black hair, Church of England religion, scar below left eye and mole on right side of his neck

He enlisted in Canada aged 25 years and 10 months, on 25 Sept 1914. He returned to England on 31 Oct 1914. Served in the No:3 Canadian Field Ambulance. Transferred to the 16th Canadian battalion. Posted to France on 1 July 1915. Reported wounded, missing and killed in action on 9 Oct 1916, aged 27. He is buried at the ADANAC MILITARY CEMETERY ; Somme, France. He is commemorated on the Beverley WW1 Memorial where he was born (although his surname was misspelt)

His next of kin were his sisters, Viola and Alice Honneyman of “The Elms”, Market Rasen, Lincolnshire. He left £104 in his will to his sister, Alice at this Probate address.

His brother Walter Holgate Gedney  Honneyman(1885-1929) also served for the Canadians during the war. He married in Surrey in 1919 and returned to Canada.
