Steel, James Barnard

Born Rudham, Norfolk, 1881. Son of Barnard Steel and Annie Charlotte Steel, of Grange Cottage, West Rudham, Kings Lynn, Norfolk (war pension address).

Employed as a groom in the Hunting Stables, at 12, Vicar Lane, Beverley, East Yorkshire (1911 Census).

He enlisted at Beverley. Served with the 8th Northumberland Fusiliers. Killed in action on 10 Oct 1917, aged 36. Commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.

His army effects were left to his father, Barnard.
