Son of Joseph Rhodes Arnold and Ada E. Arnold, of 3, Dunhill Road, Goole, Yorkshire (CWGC address). He enlisted in Hull and served with the 11th EYR (Hull Pals). He died at 31st Divisional, School of Bombing, France, on 27/08/1916, aged 23. His army effects were left to his mother, Ada.

Buried at Vielle Chapelle New Military Cemetery, France. His grave inscription, reads, WE ASKED FOR HIM, LIFE THOU HAST GIVEN HIM ETERNAL LIFE
