2/24th (County of London) Battalion (The Queen’s)
Sept 1914 Formed in Lambeth and then moved to White City.
Jan 1915 Moved to Horley and Redhill to join the 181st Brigade of the 60th Division and then moved to St. Albans and then Braintree.
Jan 1916 Moved to Sutton Veny.
26.06.1916 Mobilised for war and landed at Havre.
Nov 1916 Deployed to Salonika and engaged in various actions including;
The Battle of Doiran.
Jan 1917 Deployed to Egypt and engaged in various actions as part of the Palestine Campaign including;
The Third Battle of Gaza, The capture of Jerusalem, The defence of Jerusalem.
26.05.1918 Deployed to France via Alexandria and Taranto and leaving the 60th Division.
08.07.1918 Attached to the 198th Brigade of the 66th Division at Serqueux.
11.09.1918 Transferred to the 173rd Brigade of the 58th Division at Guyencourt and engaged in various actions on the Western Front including;
The Battle of Epehy, The general final advance in Artois.
11.11.1918 Ended the war near Peruwelz S.E. of Tournai, Belgium.
Born Mile End, London, 1881. Admmitted to the City of London, Workhose, in 1888. Resident of Hull according to Soldiers Died War records. Worked as a Beastman, West Field Farm, Preston, Hull (1911 Census). Hull address untraced. Enlisted Hornsey, Middlesex, London. Served with the 24th Battalion, London Regiment.
