SON OF A BARGE MAN, FROM A FAMILY THAT WORKED ON THE WATERWAYS AND RIVER HULL. HE WAS WORKING AS A (BOAT) LIGHTERMAN AND LIVING AT 3, BUCKINGHAM STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS).
HE MARRIED EDITH ELLEN ACKLAM (1879-1969), AT HULL, IN JANUARY 1903. HIS WIFE, EDITH ELLEN AND FOUR CHILDREN, ELSIE, SYDNEY, EDITH AND ETHEL, LIVED AT 66, CHURCH STREET, DRYPOOL, HULL.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 14791, EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. TRANSFERRED TO THE 14TH LIVERPOOL REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, AT THESSALONIKI, GREECE, ON 30/8/1917, AGED 36. BURIED AT SALONIKA, GREECE.
HIS WIDOW, EDITH, REMARRIED ON 10/05/1918, TO ARTHUR AKESTER, A COUSIN OF HER HUSBAND. SHE MOVED TO 8, ALBANY TERRACE, WILLIAMSON STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).
