HE WAS A HULL SCHOOL TEACHER, LIVING AT 72 WALMSLEY STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS). SERVED AS LANCE BOMBARDIER, IN THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY, 88TH BRIGADE, 14TH BATTERY. DIED OF BRONCHO PNEUMONIA, ON 05/12/1918, AGED 33.
HIS WIFE ELSIE MAY ALEXANDER, LIVED AT 32 GRAFTON STREET, BEVERLEY ROAD, HULL (WAR PENSION & CWGC ADDRESS).
HE IS BURIED AT PREMONT BRITISH CEMETERY, AISNE, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “HIS DUTY NOBLY DONE AND WORTHY OF EVERLASTING REMEMBRANCE”.
HIS NAME IS INSCRIBED ON A BRONZE PLAQUE AT THE COUNCIL’S GUILDHALL, TO 27 HULL TEACHERS LOST IN THE WAR.
HIS ELDER BROTHER, GUNNER, JOHN WILLIAM ALEXANDER, 290041, ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY, DIED OF WOUNDS, AT POPERINGE, ON 24/01/1918, AGED 37. BOTH BROTHERS ARE LISTED ON THE CLIFTON STREET SCHOOL ROLL OF HONOUR.
