BORN LOUTH, LINCONSHIRE, 1891. SON OF DAVID ALLENBY (1842-1904) & ELLEN BROWN (1861-1950), OF 31 MAYFIELD STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS) & 7 PRINCES AVENUE, WHEELER STREET, HULL. HE HAD ONE BROTHER AND FOUR SISTERS. HE EMIGRATED TO CANADA, AGED 18, WITH HIS BROTHER, WILLIAM THORLEY ALLENBY IN 1913. THEY WORKED FOR THE CANADIAN PACIFIC RAILWAY. HE LIVED AT, 1521 ALBERNI STREET, VANCOUVER. HE ENLISTED WITH HIS BROTHER, WILLIAM IN 1914. THEY BOTH SERVED IN THE SAME 1ST BRITISH COLUMBIA REGIMENT, 7TH CANANDIAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCE. WERE STRUCK BY THE SAME SHELL IN THE SAME ATTACK AND DIED THE SAME DAY, AT POZIERES, ON 08/09/1916. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 27TH OCTOBER 1916, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH.*
HIS DEATH WAS ALSO REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 08/09/1919, WITH THIS ADDRESS. HE IS BURIED AT THE COURCELETTE BRITISH CEMETERY, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “THIS IS FOR EVER ENGLAND”.
HIS BROTHER, WILLIAM THORLEY ALLENBY, 7TH CEF, IS COMMEMORATED ON THE VIMY WAR MEMORIAL FRANCE. BOTH BROTHERS WERE LISTED TOGETHER ON THE NORMAN PRIMITIVE METHODIST CHURCH MEMORIAL, HAWTHORNE AVENUE, HULL, UNVEILED, ON 6TH JUNE 1920.
