Born Messingham, Lincolnshire, 1897. Son of Amelia and George Altoft of 9, Chapel Yard, Wrawby Street, Brigg, Lincolnshire (War Pension address). Son of a Farm Labourer.
He enlisted in Hull. served with the 8th East Yorkshire Regiment. Killed in action, on 10/05/1917, aged 20. Commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.
His army effects were left to his mother Amelia.
