PRIOR TO WAR HE WORKED FOR EARLE’S SHIPYARD. HE ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS. REPORTED MISSING, THEN KILLED. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON THE 3RD JULY 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE FREDERICK ALBERT ANDERSON 12/892. Born in October 1886, Frederick was one of five children to William and Matilda Anderson of 26 Beech Avenue, Garden Village, Hull. A Shipyard Labourer by trade he married Greta Howard on 18th April 1909 and the couple lived at 9 Brunswick Terrace, Durham Street with their two sons, Ernest and Albert. When war came he enlisted at City Hall on October 5th 1914 joining the 12th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, ‘The Sportsmen’, 3rd Hull Pals. One of the Originals, he served in Egypt before arriving in France early in March 1916. Frederick was listed as missing on 12th November 1916 and his body never recovered. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial; he was 30 years old. Brace yourselves. The Pals formed the spearhead of the last attack of the Somme campaign, wading through mud up to their waist across open ground.
