BORN BEVERLEY 1897. SON OF EDWARD & MARY ANN ANDERSON, OF 19, TOMLINSON STREET, SELBY STREET, NEWINGTON, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). SECOND OF FOUR CHILDREN. HE HAD AN OLDER SISTER JENNIE, AND YOUNGER BROTHERS, EDWARD AND DOUGLAS. EMPLOYED AS A LABOURER.

HE ENLISTED, UNDERAGE, IN HULL, ON 06/10/1914. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 8 INCHES TALL, 122 LBS WEIGHT, 34 INCH CHEST, WITH A 6 INCH EXPANSION, “GOOD” VISION, AND PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 2673, 2/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE WAS DISCHARGED, FOR BEING TOO YOUNG, BUT RE-ENLISTED AS PRIVATE, 31930, 25TH MACHINE GUN CORPS, (INFANTRY), ON 19/04/1916. HE ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 20/07/1916. KILLED ON THE SOMME, ON 10/11/1916, AGED 18. HE HAD SERVED FOR 1 YEAR AND 196 DAYS. AWARDED THE BRITISH WAR AND VICTORY MEDALS.
HIS BODY WAS NOT RECOVERED AND HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.

HIS YOUNGER BROTHER, PRIVATE EDWARD ARTHUR ANDERSON, 15 DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY, WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 10/09/1918, AGED 18. BOTH BROTHERS ARE RECORDED TOGETHER, ON ST MATTHEWS CHURCH WW1 MEMORIAL, BOULEVARD, HULL.
