BORN HULL 1896. ELDEST SON OF WILSON ANDERTON AND MARIA D’ARCY, 2 SALFORD AVENUE, MANCHESTER STREET, HULL. HE HAD ANOTHER BROTHER EDWARD AND FIVE SISTERS. BEFORE ENLISTING HE WAS A SHOP ASSISTANT, OF MR THOMAS COOK, GENTLEMAN’S OUTFITTER, 113 HESSLE ROAD, HULL. HE WAS WELL KNOWN IN THE HESSLE ROAD AREA. HE ENLISTED HULL. ARRIVED FRANCE 20/04/1915. KILLED IN ACTION A MONTH LATER, AGED 19. HE DIED WITH 12 OTHER MEN ON THIS DAY FROM THE 2ND NORTHUMBRIAN BRIGADE AND WAS BURIED WITH SIX OF THEM. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, MARIA. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 10/06/1915 AND IN THE HDM 11/06/1916 WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. ALSO THE HULL TIMES, ON 12/06/1915. *
FOR MANY YEARS HIS BODY LAY UNDISCOVERED WITH THE SIX MEN (INCLUDING ALBERT VENUS) WHO DIED WITH HIM. THEIR BODIES WERE UNEARTHED DURING A CULTIVATION OF A FIELD, SOUTHSIDE OF THE MENIN ROAD, IN SPRING 2014. WILSON ANDERTON WAS ALSO MISSING FROM OFFICIAL CASUALTY DETAILS. HIS NAME WAS FINALLY ADDED TO THE CWGC RECORDS ON THE 26/07/2016. HIS NAME WILL BE ADDED TO THE YPRES MENIN GATE MEMORIAL, BELGIUM.
