BORN HULL 1895. SON OF AGNES MAY WINDASS (1856-1936) & JOHN WILLIAM ANDREW (1859-1918), OF 16 WILLIAM STREET, HULL AND 12 PORTLAND PLACE, PROSPECT STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). ONE OF TEN CHILDREN. HE ENLISTED IN HULL AT THE AGE OF 19. SERVED WITH THE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT IN FRANCE. KILLED IN ACTION, AT THE SOMME, ON 10/07/1916, AGED 22. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL. HIS NAME WAS RECORDED ON THE WILLIAM STREET ROH. PUBLISHED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 18/08/1916, 26/05/1917 & 10/07/1916.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH, IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 24TH MAY 1917. *
HIS OLDER BROTHER, PRIVATE, ARTHUR WINDASS ANDREW, 38393, 1/4TH EYR, WAS ALSO KILLED AT THE SOMME, ON 30/03/1918, AGED 30. BOTH BROTHERS WERE UNMARRIED. THEY LEFT THEIR ARMY EFFECTS TO THEIR FATHER, JOHN WILLIAM ANDREW, WHO DIED IN 1918.
