Andrews, George Frederick

BORN HULL 1894. ELDEST SON OF GEORGE WILLIAM THOMPSON ANDREWS & ELEANOR (MARSHALL) AT THIS ADDRESS (1911 CENSUS). ONE OF NINE CHILDREN. SON OF A DOCK LABOURER. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS A BUGLER, IN THE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. ARRIVED IN FRANCE ON THE 13TH JULY 1915. KILLED IN ACTION, AT YPRES ON THE 2ND MARCH 1916, AGED 21. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER ELEANOR. BURIED AT VOORMEZEELE ENCLOSURES NO.1 AND NO.2, BELGIUM. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “DEARLY LOVED BY ALL AT HOME”.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 17TH MARCH 1916, 19TH APRIL 1916 * AND THE 9TH OCTOBER 1916.
HIS BROTHERS, ALBERT EDWARD ANDREWS, 41683, 3rd ROYAL FIED ARTLLERY AND PRIVATE, J.T. ANDREWS, 8TH LINCOLNS, ALSO SERVED IN THE WAR. HIS THREE UNCLES – MARSHALLS ALL SERVED IN THE EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT.
