HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 01/04/1916, AGED 35 YEARS AND 4 MONTHS. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 12/07/1916. POSTED TO THE 2ND YORKSHIRE REGIMENT ON 06/09/1916. RETURNED TO ENGLAND ON 15/04/1917. RE-POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 14/07/1917. TRANSFERRED TO THE 13TH YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 22/03/1918, AGED 37. HIS BODY WAS NEVER FOUND. COMMEMORATED ON THE ARRAS MEMORIAL. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, MARY, WHO MOVED TO 60 ROTHERBURY STREET, SCARBOROUGH. .
