Ansell, William Herbert

BORN HULL 1887. ELDEST SON OF WILLIAM HENRY ANSELL & LOUISE ELEANOR WILDRIDGE (1861-1940). HE HAD A YOUNGER BROTHER, CHARLES AND HIS MOTHER REMARRIED BECOMING MRS HARMAN.

HE MARRIED ADA MARWOOD (1889-1958), AT HULL IN 1910, AGED 23. HE WORKED AS A JOINER AND LIVED AT 4, HILDAS AVENUE, PERTH STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS).

HE ENLISTED HULL. SERVED AS A GUNNER IN THE EAST RIDING ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. TRANSFERRED TO THE 281ST SIEGE BATTERY. DIED OF WOUNDS ON 07/08/1917, AGED 30. HIS ARMY EFFECT WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW ADA, WHO MOVED TO WILLERBY, NEAR HULL (WAR PENSION RECORDS).
HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON ST MATTHEWS CHURCH WW1 MEMORIAL, BOULEVARD, HULL.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL 09/08/1918. HIS WAR PENSION WENT TO HIS WIDOW, ADA, AND THEIR TWO CHILDREN, WHO MOVED TO WILLERBY, HULL, AFTER THE WAR. HIS NAME IS ALSO INSCRIBED ON THE KIRKELLA WAR MEMORIAL AT ST ANDREWS’ CHURCH.
