Appleby, Alfred

BORN HULL 1893. SON OF WILLIAM HENRY APPLEBY AND EMMA APPLEBY, OF 12 PRINCESS TERRACE, ADELAIDE STREET, HULL & 34 BARMSTON STREET. HE PREVIOUSLY WORKED ON HULL DOCKS AND WAS A FEED CAKE MILLER.

HE ENLISTED HULL. SERVED IN THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED ON THE SOMME, AGED 23.

HIS WAR PENSION WAS CLAIMED BY ESTER APPLEBY AT 4. ARMS TERRACE, CAMPBELL STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).

HE WAS REPORTED WOUNDED AND MISSING IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL 21/10/16, 27/1/17 & 3/2/17. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 24TH JANUARY 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *

HIS YOUNGER BROTHER PTE, WILLIAM APPLEBY, WYR WAS KILLED ALMOST THE SAME DAY TWO YEARS LATER, ON 20/7/1918, AGED 19.
