BORN HULL 1896. SON OF JOHN EDWARD APPLEBY (1870-1915) & MARY AGNES APPLEBY. THEIR HULL DAILY MAIL ADDRESS WAS THE DAIRYCOATES PETROL HOUSE, NEWINGTON STREET, HULL. HIS FATHER WAS AN ENGINEER FOR THE PETROL COMPANY. GEORGE APPLEBY WORKED AS A BUTCHER (1911 CENSUS). DESCRIBED AS 5 FFOT, 10 INCHES TALL, 150 LBS WEIGHT, 38.5 INCH CHEST, GOOD PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 23/10/1915. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 2342, 3/1ST EAST RIDING YEOMANRY. TRANSFERRED TO THE 8TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, ON 20/01/1917. WOUNDED IN ACTION, ON, 08/04/1917.  HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 03/06/1917, AGED 22.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER JOHN EDWARD APPLEBY.

HE IS BURIED AT MONCHY BRITISH CEMETERY, MONCHY-LE-PREUX, FPAS DE CALAIS, FRANCE.
