BORN HULL 1899. SON OF MR WILLIAM HENRY APPLEBY & MRS EMMA GOWER – 34 BARMSTON STREET, 3 LINCOLN STREET, HULL AND 22, ST SILAS TERRACE, SWANN STREET, WINCOLMLEE, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESSES).  ONE OF FOUR CHILDREN. HE WORKED FOR MESSRS, KEIGHLEY & SONS OIL MILLS.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 2/5TH WEST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE WAS WOUNDED AND PRESUMED KILLED 20/07/1918, AGED 19.

HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH WERE REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 4TH SEPTEMBER 1918 AND 26TH AUGUST 1919. *

HE WAS UNMARRIED AND HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE RETURNED TO HIS FATHER WILLIAM. HIS WAR PENSION WENT TO HIS MOTHER, EMMA AND SISTER, WHO LIVED AT 22, ST SILAS TERRACE, SWANN STREET, HULL.

HE IS BURIED AT MARFAUX BRITISH CEMETERY, MARNE, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “EVER IN THOUGHT”

HIS OLDER BROTHER PTE, ALFRED APPLEBY, 1ST EYR, WAS KILLED ON 23/07/1916, AGED 23.
