BORN HULL 10/12/1881. SON OF SARAH ANN (1862-1941) & HARRY ATKIN (1863-1915), OF 50, MELROSE STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION & CWGC ADDRESS). HE HAD FIVE BROTHERS AND SIX SISTERS. LIVD AT 44, WYNDHAM STREET, HULL & 108 WEST PARADE, HULL. EMPLOYED AS A CLERK, BY THE BRITISH GAS LIGHT COMPANY, HULL (1911 CENSUS).
HE ENLISTED IN THE ROYAL NAVY VOLUNTARY RESERVE, ON 13/11/1915. SERVED WITH THE ‘PECKHAM DOWN’ ROYAL NAVY DIVISON. THESE WERE SOLDIERS MADE UP OF SURPLUS SEAMEN. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 11/12/1917. JOINED THE ‘HAWKES’ BATTALION, ROYAL NAVAL DIVISION, ON 05/0/1918. INVALIDED TO ENGLAND WITH TRENCH FOOT, ON 21/01/1918.RETURNED TO FRANCE, ON 16/07/1918. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 03/09/1918, AGED 27.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 30/09/1918 & 03/09/1919.
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE BRITISH GAS LIGHT AND COKE COMPANY WAR MEMORIAL, KEPT AT FAKENHAM GAS WORKS MUSEUM.
