Gilbert Atkin, 2nd Suffolks

BORN NORTH FERRIBY, 1893. SON OF GEORGE & ADA IN NORTH FERRIBY. HE LIVED HIMSELF OFF NEWLAND AVENUE – 1911 CENSUS. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED AND PHOTOGRAPH PRINTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 7TH OCTOBER 1915. *
Private Gilbert Atkin, late summer porter, Brough, who died in General Hospital, France, on October 5th 1915, as a result of gunshot wounds received in action, was 22 years of age, and joined the North Eastern Railway service on August 31st, 1912, as lad porter at Ferriby. Before Gilbert worked for the Railway he was a Horseman on a farm. He enlisted in the 20th Hussars on August 29th 1914, and, after being stationed at Colchester, transferred into the 2nd Suffolks Regiment Gilbert who was born in 1893 in North Ferriby had a Regimental Number of 19205. At the time of his active service he lived on High Street, North Ferriby and is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery. He was the son of George and Ada Atkin.
