BORN HULL 09/041877. SON OF HENRY HUGHES ATKIN (1838-1878) & ANN ATKIN (1837-1905), OF 12 CHAPMAN STREET AND WINCOLMLEE, HULL. BROTHER TO JOHN, ALFRED, JAMES AND ELIZA ATKIN. EMPLOYED AS A COOPER, FOR THE HULL OIL MANUFACTURING COMPANY, STONEFERRY HULL. HE MARRIED EMILY YOUNG, IN HULL, ON 03/08/1899 – THEY LIVED AT THIS HULL ADDRESS, WITH THEIR SON, GEORGE.
ENLISTED HULL, ON 04/12/1915. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 05/07/1916. WOUNDED IN THE RIGHT LEG AND FOOT, AT THE SOMME BATTLE. INVALIDED TO ENGLAND ON 12/08/1916. HE DIED OF ACUTE BRONCHITIS AT HULL ROYAL INFIRMARY, ON 16/01/1917, AGED 39. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 1 YEAR AND 34 DAYS. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 06/09/1917. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, EMILY, WHO MOVED TO 36 SCOTT STREET AND 18 NEW GEORGE STREET, HULL.
HE IS BURIED AT HULL’S HEDON ROAD CEMETERY.
