Baker, William Maurice

Born Hull 12 Dec 1892. Son of William M baker and Ellen Baker at 2 Arundel Street, Holderness Road, Hull (1911 census). Son of a Dredgerman.

Married Mary Longman at Sculcoates, Hull in 1914. Husband of Mary Baker at 6, Myrtle Grove, Nornabell Street, hull (Navy Address) and 11, Victor Street, Holderness Road, Hull (War Pension address). They had two children, Nellie and William. A grocer’s Assistant. Described as 5 foot, 8.5 inches tall, 141 lbs weight, 34-36 inch chest,

Enlisted at Hull on 10 Sept 1914, aged 21 years and 9 months. Served with the Hull Pals in Egypt and France. Transferred to the 8th East Yorkshire Regiment and then to the 769th Labour Corps, Employment Company. Suffered from flat feet, varicose veins, heart problems, had 16 teeth removed, injured his right eye chopping wood. Discharged 24 March 1919.

Died at Brooklyn, New York, on the Ship Francisca, where he worked as an Assistant Cookon. Died on 30 Oct 1919, aged 26.
