HE ENLISTED IN HULL. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 10/09/1915. PROMOTED TO LANCE SERGEANT. HE SERVED WITH THE 10TH WEST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 30/03/1918, AGED 34. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS BROTHER, CHARLES.
HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE COTTINGHAM ROLL OF HONOUR, HALLGATE.
HE IS BURIED AT CAMBRAI EAST MILITARY CEMETERY, NORD, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “A LOVING SON A BROTHER KIND AND BEAUTIFUL MEMORY LEFT BEHIND”
