BORN ST JAMES, HULL 1896. SON OF THE LATE WALTER BARBER AND MARY ANN BARBER, AT 27 MANCHESTER STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS). EMPLOYED AS A STREET ORDERLY MP. WORKED FOR MESSERS, J.S. FRY’S CHOCHOLATE, BRANCH, HULL.

HE ENLISTED HULL. SERVED WITH THE 1ST SOMERSET LIGHT INFANTRY WHEN WAR BEGAN. WOUNDED IN BOTH THIGHS, BY SHRAPNEL FIRE, SEPTEMBER 1914. INVALIDED TO CARDIFF HOSPITAL. TRANSFERRED AND SERVED AS  LANCE SERGEANT , IN THE 8TH KINGS OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 29/09/1917, AGED 22. BURIED AT HOOGE CRATER CEMETERY. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, MARY. ALDO LEFT OLIVE
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 05/11/1917 & 30/09/1918.
