Born Hull 1881. Eldest child of Alfred and Selina Barley of 56, Blake Street, Hull (1911 census) and 86. Ampleforth Grove, Willerby Road, Hull (War pension address). Son a Goods Checker. He worked as a Railway Goods Porter. he had a younger brother, Alfred and three sisters, Selina, Elsie and Doris.
He served as Acting Corporal, in the 2nd King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Awarded the Military Medal (MM). Discharged on 12/3/1919. he died in Hull in 1930, aged 50. He left a dependent mother.
