BORN HULL 1885. SON OF JOHN BARMBY (1851-1933) AND ELIZA FIELDER PARKINSON (1858-1919), OF 44, SCULCOATES LANE, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).
HIS MOTHER DIED ON 01/05/19, AGE 62). HE HAD TWO BROTHERS GEORGE AND HAROLD AND THREE SISTERS. WAS A CARTER BY TRADE.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL AND JOINED THE NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS, (12th NFUS. 3/9042). TRANSFERRED AS PRIVATE, 17TH NFUS. 3/9042., 26TH NFUS 3/9042, 9th NFUS, 3/9042. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 07/10/1915. HE WAS WOUNDED, ON 26/01/1916, BY GUNSHOT IN THE CHEST, SIDE AND LEGS. WAS INVALIDED TO BIRMINGHAM HOSPITAL FOR SIX MONTHS RECOVERY. THEN STATIONED AT NEWCASTLE BARRACKS. HE TRANSFERRED TO OTHER SERCTIONS (Pte., 17TH NFUS. 3/9042., 26TH NFUS 3/9042., 9th NFUS, 3/9042) BEFORE RETURNING TO THE REGIMENTAL DEPOT.
HE DIED AT CHESTER HOSPITAL, ON 19/04/1918 AND HIS BODY WAS RETURNED TO HULL FOR BURIAL. HE IS BURIED IN HULL NORTHERN CEMETERY.
HIS WIFE FRANCIS LILLIAN BARMBY DIED APRIL 1919, AGE 36. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE SHARED BETWEEN HIS MOTHER ELIZA AND THEN HIS SISTER, GERTRUDE BARMBY. HIS NAME WAS INSCRIBED ON THE STONE PILLARS INSIDE ST MARY’S CHURCH, SCULCOATES LANE, HULL.
