Barnaby, Frederick William

BORN HULL 1890. SON OF FREDERICK WILLIAM BARNABY & MARY JANE BARNABY, OF 16 EVANS SQUARE, WALTON STREET, HULL AND 32, PRINCES ROAD, OFF PRINCES AVENUE, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HIS FATHER WAS A LONG STANDING SERVANT OF THE HULL & BARNSLEY RAILWAY LINE. EMPLOYED AS A WAGON BUILDER AND REPAIRER. HE WORKED FOR THE HULL & BARNSLEY RAILWAY LINE IN THE FITTER’S DEPARTMENT. HE LIVED WITH HIS BROTHER, ROLAND, AT 101 WALTON STREET, HULL.

HE ENLISTED AT HULL, IN MAY 1915. POSTED TO FRANCE IN SEPTEMBER 1916. SERVING AS, ACTING LANCE CORPORAL, WITH THE LOCAL ROYAL ENGINEERS. HE WAS REPORTED MISSING, THEN KILLED IN ACTION AT ARRAS, ON 18/06/1917, AGED 26.

HE IS COMMEMORATED AT THE ARRAS MEMORIAL. HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE ROYAL ENGINEERS MEMORIAL, AT HULL’S HOLY TRINITY MINSTER.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 20/06/1918. * HIS BROTHER ALSO SERVED IN THE ROYAL ENGINNERS, DURING THE WAR.
