James Offer writes on 31/12/2015:
Edward William Barnes was the Observer with my Uncle, Aubrey R M Rickards , when they were brought down on the 5th/6th April 1917 on the first Night Bombing Raids with 100 Squadron, on Douai Aerodrome, the airfield from which Manfred Von Richtofen operated. They were initially reported missing , fate unknown , but subsequently both were reported as being Prisoners of War in German hands. The Hull Daily Mail of 22nd May 1917 reports Barnes as missing, but on 18th July 1917 he is reported as a Prisoner of War. If you would like further information / proof, I have a lot of other information about him – if so , please let me have your email address.
