HE HAD ENLISTED AS PRIVATE, 7073, EAST LANCASHIRE REGIMENT, AT PRESTON, ON 01/08/1902, AGED 19. DISCHARGED AS MEDICALLY UNFIT, ON 09/10/1904. WORKED AS A PAWN BROKER’S ASSISTANT. LIVING AT 36 LINNAEUS STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS ADDRESS).
ENLISTED HULL. SERVED WITH THE 5TH BORDER REGIMENT. WOUNDED ON 07/11/1916. DIED OF WOUNDS, IN MANCHESTER GENERAL HOSPITAL, ON 31/12/1916. AGED 33. (He was the Stepbrother of John William Tilford, of 24, Shudehill, Manchester.)
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 01/01/1917. HE WAS AWARDED THE BRITISH WAR MEDAL AND VICTORY MEDAL. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO EVELINE TRUSTLE.
