BORN HULL 1890. SON OF GEORGE THOMAS BARNETT (1859-1933) AND CATHERINE BARNETT (1862-1921), OF 18 COURTNEY STREET, HULL AND 13 ETHEL GROVE, BARNSLEY STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). ONE OF SEVEN CHILDREN. SON OF AN OIL PRESSMAN. EMPLOYED AS A PAVIER, BY THE BON ACCORD OIL MILLS, HULL. HE LIVED AT 8, HERBERT AVENUE, BALFOUR STREET, HOLDERNESS ROAD, HULL (HDM ADDRESS, 23/08/1916).
HE ENLISTED IN ABERDEEN IN NOVEMBER 1914. JOINED THE 1ST GORDON HIGHLANDERS. WOUNDED AT THE SOMME ON 14/08/1916. KILLED IN ACTION ON 14/06/1917, AGED 27. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 23/05/1918. HIS ONLY BROTHER JAMES BARNETT, SERVED IN THE 1ST EYR. HE SURVIVED THE WAR. DYING IN 1927, AGED 42.
HE LEFT FIVE SISTERS, MARGARET, ANNIE, CATHERINE, JANE AND ISABELLA.
