EMPLOYED AS A BRICKLAYER AND FARM WORKER AT NEW HOLLAND FARM, TICKTON. HIS ARMY RECORD, DESCRIBED HIM, AS 5 FOOT, 5.5 INCHES TALL, 34-36 INCH CHEST, 123 LBS WEIGHT,. HE COULD NOT READ OR WRITE.
HE ENLISTED IN BEVERLEY, ON 09/02/1916. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 24689 EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. TRANSFERRED TO THE 10TH YORK & LANCASTER REGIMENT, ON 01/09/1916. KILLED WHILE TAKING FOOD TO THE TRENCHES, ON 05/10/1917, AGED 23. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, GRACE. HE LEFT A FIANCEE, LILLIE (HDM 07/10/1917).
HE HAD SERVED 132 DAYS IN THE ARMY. COMMEMORATED ON THE TYNE COT MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING, BELGIUM.
