
BORN HULL 1898. SON OF WILLIAM & JANE ELIZABETH BARRETT AT 13, PLEASANT PLACE, MARVEL STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS) and 7, RAIKES STREET, DRYPOOL, HULL. (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). BEFORE THE WAR HE WORKED FOR SISSONS BROTHER’S SAWMILLS, HEDON ROAD.
HE LIED ABOUT HIS AGE TO ENLIST IN THE 2ND EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE ARRIVED IN FRANCE IN APRIL 1915. TRANSFERRED TO THE 3RD EYR. DIED OF WOUNDS RECEIVED IN FRANCE, ON 27/07/1915, AGED 17, AT HAVRE HOSPITAL. HIS FATHER WAS AWARDED A WEEKLY WAR PENSION OF 5 SHILLINGS, ON 6 NOVEMBER 1918.
HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH APPEAR IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 10TH SEPTEMBER 1915, AND THE HULL TIMES, ON THE 11TH SEPTEMBER 1915. *
THE INSCRIPTION ON HIS CWGC GRAVE READS: “THY PURPOSE LORD WE CANNOT SEE BUT ALL IS WELL THAT’S DONE BY THEE”
