Beanland, Henry

BORN BRADFORD, 07/02/1892. SON OF BENJAMIN BEANLAND (1862-1941) & LYDIA BARRACLOUGH (1864-1945), OF 99 SEVERN STREET, HULL. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS BOTH KILLED IN THE WAR AND THREE SISTERS, AMANDA, BEATRICE AND ELSIE. A STOKER AND WOOD SAWYER BY TRADE.

HE MARRIED IN HULL, ON 25/12/1913. HIS WIFE ELLEN WAINWRIGHT AND SON JOSEPH (1914-1916) LIVED AT 5 GROVE TERRACE, COURTNEY STREET, HULL & 11, BUCKINGHAM STREET, HOLDERNESS ROAD, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).

HE ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS. SERVED WITH THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. PROMOTED TO CORPORAL. HE WAS  KILLED IN ACTION, AT SERRE, ON  13/11/1916, AGED 23. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING, SOMME, FRANCE.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 07/12/1916. * HIS WAR PENSION WENT TO HIS WIDOW, ELLEN, WHO REMARRIED, ON 21/04/1917, BECAME MRS O’NEIL AND MOVED TO 11 BUCKINGHAM STREET, HOLDERNESS ROAD, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS)

HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, ARTHUR BEANLAND, 26910, 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, WAS KILLED WITH HIM, ON THE SAME DAY, IN THE SAME ATTACK.

HIS OLDER BROTHER, PRIVATE, WALTER BEANLAND, A PROFESSIONAL SOLDIER, SERVING WITH THE 1ST NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS, WAS KILLED ON THE 14/09/1914, AGED 28. THEY LEFT THREE SISTERS AMANDA, BEATRICE AND ELSIE.
