BORN BRADFORD 1886. SON OF BENJAMIN BEANLAND (1862-1941) & LYDIA BARRACLOUGH (1864-1945), OF 113 WATERLOO ROAD, MIDDLESBOROUGH AND 99 SEVERN STREET, HULL. SON OF AN INSURANCE AGENT (1911 CENSUS). HE HAD TWO BROTHERS, BOTH KILLED IN THE WAR AND THREE SISTERS, AMANDA, BEATRICE AND ELSIE.
WALTER WAS A PROFESSIONAL SOLDIER, SERVING WITH THE 1ST NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS (1911 CENSUS). HE MARRIED ETHEL MAY FOSTER, AT HULL, IN 1913. HE LANDED IN FRANCE WITH THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE. ON 13/08/1914. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 14/09/1914, AGED 28. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, ETHEL MAY (LATER TEMPLE) AND DAUGHTER, ELSIE MAY (BORN 12/12/1913), AT 65 THE VALE, GROVE HILL, MIDDLESBOROUGH AND 6 CAVE TERRACE, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESSES).
HIS ONLY TWO BROTHERS, ARTHUR AND HENRY BEANLAND, ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS AND SERVED IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. THEY WERE BOTH KILLED, AT SERRE, ON 13/11/1916, SERVING WITH THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT.
