BORN HULL 1896. SON OF ROBERT (1850-1918) & ADELINE BEAUMONT (1850-1927) OF 30 DALTRY STREET, HULL.(ARMY ADDRESS).
A CRANE DRIVER, FOR THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAYS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 8.5 INCHES TALL, 35-37 INCH CHEST, GOOD VISION AND PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT.
HE MARRIED FLORENCE ANNIE CROWTHER (1896-1974) AT HULL IN 1914. SHE MOVED TO CHURCH STREET, WELTON.
HE ENLISTED AS A GUNNER IN THE 1st EAST RIDING ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY, ON 03/04/1914. HE HAD PREVIOUSLY LIED ABOUT HIS AGE AND SERVED FOR 142 DAYS IN THE KING’S OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY. HE SERVED FOR 1 YEAR AND 231 DAYS, BUT NOT OVERSEAS.
HE WAS DISCHARGED FROM THE ARMY ON 19/10/1915, WITH EPILEPSY. HE DIED ON 25/01/1916, AGED 19. THERE IS NO CWGC RECORD OF HIS DEATH.
HIS WIDOW, WROTE TO THE MILITARY FOR MONEY, SAYING THAT SHE NO NEW CLOTHES AND WAS STARVING. THE CASE WAS INVESTIGATED BY THE POLICE, WHO FOUND SHE WAS OFTEN DRINKING WITH OTHER SOLDIERS STATIONED IN THE AREA AND WAS PREGNANT TO A MARRIED MAN WHO HAD MOVED IN WITH HER.
HE APPEAL WAS DISMISSED AND SHE WAS REFUSED A WAR PENSION.
