BORN HULL 25/08/1878. SON OF WILLIAM BELLERBY (1853-1912) & LOUISA MOODY 1855-1895), OF THIS HULL ADDRESS. HE LIVED WITH HIS GRANDFATHER. WORKED AS A TAILOR’S ASSISTANT, BEFORE JOINING THE ROYAL NAVY. HE MARRIED FLORENCE MAY HOLT (1884-1951), AT HULL, ON 05/10/1910. THEY HAD TWO CHILDREN, THOMAS AND JESSIE, AND LIVED AT 22 REGENT STREET, GILLINGHAM, KENT. SERVED AS PETTY OFFICER, ON HMS ‘HOGUE’. SUNK BY SUBMARINE ON 22/09/1914. DROWNED WITH 376 CREW. AGED 35. COMMEMORATED ON THE CHATHAM NAVAL MEMORIAL, KENT, UK.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 22/09/1916.

On September 22nd 1914, U-9 (Ltn. Otto Weddigen) became world famous when she sank three 12.000 ton British cruisers in less than one hour: Aboukir HMS, Cressy HMS and Hogue HMS, with the loss of almost 1400 men.
