BORN PONTEFRACT 1897. SON OF WILLIAM & ANNIE BENN WHO LIVED ABOVE. HE WAS EMPLOYED IN HULL AS AN ASSISTANT LICORICE REFINER. BOARDED WITH HIS FATHER AT 20 FOLKESTONE STREET DURING THE 1911 CENSUS. HE ENLISTED IN CENTRAL HULL. SERVED WITH THE 7TH DUKE OF CORNWALL LIGHT INFANTRY. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 16/08/1917, AGED 20. COMMEMORATED ON THE TYNE COT MEMORIAL. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER WILLIAM. LISTED IN TRINITY & ST VINCENT CHURCH BUT NOT ON SCULCOATES MEMORIAL.
