Born Hull 1885. Son of Henry Bennett and Mary Elizabeth Norman (1852-1929), of 30, and 50, Bacheler Street, Hull, England. He had two older sisters, Ada and Amy and a younger brother, Arthur. He worked as a railway clerk in Hull, (1901 Census), before emigrating to South Africa.
He enlisted in the 1st South African Infantry. promoted to Sergeant. Died of shell shock, on 15/10/1919, aged 34. He is buried in Johannesburg, South Africa.
He is remembered on St Matthews Church Memorial, Boulevard, Hull.
