BORN HULL 1885. SON OF JOHN JAMES BETTS AND MARY JACKMAN, OF 10 MILLER TERRACE, SPYVEE STREET AND 58 CLIFTON TERRACE, DAY STREET, WELLINGTON LANE, HULL. HE ENLISTED IN THE 13TH HULL PALS AND WAS KILLED ON THE 13TH NOVEMBER 1916, AGED 31. BEFORE THE WAR HE WORKED AS A PORTER AND OPERATER FOR THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAYS, AT THE SCULCOATES STATION.
HE MARRIED ELIZABETH FAIRBOTHAM IN 1909 AND HAD TWO DAUGHTERS, GLADYS AND ELSIE BETTS. AT SOME TIME THE FAMILY LIVED AT 1 HANNAHS TERRACE, SPYVEE STREET.
HIS NAME APPEARS ON NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY ROLL OF HONOUR. 4 YORK AVENUE, ST MARK STREET, HULL WAS HIS ADDRESS FROM ARMY RECORDS.
HIS YOUNGER BROTHER, JOSEPH BETTS, 13TH EYR, HAD BEEN KILLED EARLIER ON THE 20TH JULY 1916, AGED 27.
