BORN WELBURN, YORKSHIRE 1877. SON OF JOHN & SELINA BIELBY, OF 13 SCOTT STREET, HULL. A MACHINE ATTENDANT FOR THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAYS, ENGINEERS DEPARTMENT.
HE ENLISTED AS PRIVATE, 2583, IN THE 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT AND WENT TO FRANCE, ON 17/04/1915. HE TRANSFERRED AS PRIVATE, 204121, TO THE 12TH EAST YORKSHIRE BATTALION. WOUNDED AT OPPY WOOD. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 14/09/1917, AGED 40.
HIS WIFE, MABEL MARY BIELBY, LIVED AT 8 HENRY’S TERRACE, WEST PARADE, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND LATER LIVED AT 8 RAILWAY COTTAGES, BRIDLINGTON, YORKSHIRE (CWGC ADDRESS). THEY HAD FOUR CHILDREN, LEONARD, ELLA, NORA AND JENNIE. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO MABEL.
HE IS BURIED AT DUISANS BRITISH CEMETERY, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION READS, “SOMEDAY WE SHALL UNDERSTAND”
