BORN HOLLYM, YORKSHIRE, 1885. SON OF JANE ELIZABETH & THE LATE WILLIAM RICHARD BILTON, OF 138 , MERSEY STREET, HULL. ONE OF SEVEN CHILDREN. ALSO LIVED AT 22 CEYLON STREET, HULL. HE WAS A BRICKLAYER BY TRADE AND WORKED FOR MESSRS, SISSONS BROTHERS, BANKSIDE, HULL.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 31/8/1914, JOINING THE THE 10TH HUSSARS. HE WENT TO FRANCE IN JUNE 1915 AND WAS WOUNDED IN MARCH 1916. RETURNED TO EDMONTON HOSPITL, NORTH LONDON. TRANSFERRED TO THE EAST KENT REGIMENT, ON 02/06/1915 AND THE 6TH EAST KENTS ON 30/6/1915. WOUNDED IN THE THIGH ON 10/3/1916 AND RETURNED TO UNIT ON 01/04/1916. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 10/7/1916, AGED 31. (Edgar has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. He was probably killed during an advance on the Albert-Baupame Road by British and French troops on the day of his death.)
