BORN BARROW ON HUMBER, 1890. SON OF SAMUEL BILTON (1848-1922) & JANE BILTON (1853-1891). ONE OF NINE CHILDING. HE WORKED “FILLING HANDLE BARS” (1911 CENSUS). MARRIED ELSIE MARTIN, IN HULL IN 1917. HIS WIFE ELSIE BILTON LIVED BARROW HAVEN, HULL. HE EMIGRATED TO CANADA IN 1912. ARRIVED AT HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA, ON 20/04/1912. HE ENLISTED THERE. JOINING THE 24TH BATTALION (1ST QUEBEC REGIMENT). HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 15/08/ 1917, AGED 27. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW ELSIE. HE IS BURIED AT LOOS, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “HE LOVED CHIVALRY TRUTH AND HONOUR FREEDOM AND COURTESY”
