HE ENLISTED IN HULL, SERVED WITH THE LOCAL ROYAL ENGINEERS. KILLED IN ACTION, IN FRANCE, ON 10/04/1918, AGED 42. HE LEFT A WIDOWED MOTHER, SISTERS, KATE AND EDITH, HIS WIDOW, HANNAH COTTON, LIVED WITH ANOTHER MAN, AT 82, NORTHGATE, COTTINGHAM. SHE WAS DEEMED AN “UNWORTHY WIFE” BY THE WAR PENSIONS AUTHORITY.
