BORN WHITSTABLE 1888. SON OF EDWIN BLAXLAND (1857-1926) AND ROSALIA WHEELER (1855-1950).
HE MARRIED AT SCULCOATES, HULL, IN JULY 1914. HIS WIFE KATE DREWERY HEPWORTH (1885-1966) LIVED AT 1 WESTMINSTER AVENUE, HOLDERNESS ROAD, HULL, (CWGC ADDRESS). HE WAS THE SON IN LAW OF WILLIAM HEPWORTH, A JOINER, AT THE NORTH EATERN RAILWAYS, ENGINEERS DEPARTMENT, HULL DOCKS.
EDWIN WORKED AS A SHOP JOINER, AND BOARDED AT 4 ALBERT VILLAS, HOLLAND STREET, HULL. HE ENLISTED AT YORK, IN SEPTEMBER 1914. JOINED THE 17TH NFUS, RAILWAY PALS. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 20/11/1915. SERVED WITH THE 2ND NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. PROMOTED TO LANCE SERGEANT. KILLED IN AN ATTACK ON A MACHINE GUN POST, ONE WEEK BEFORE THE WAR ENDED. HE WAS AGED 20 AND NEWLY MARRIED. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 20TH NOVEMBER. HE IS BURIED AT FONTAINE-AU-BOIS COMMUNAL CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “DEEPLY MOURNED”
