BORN DERBY 1889. SON OF JOBE BLURTON (1858-1941) & ELIZABETH RATCLIFFE (1861-1933), OF DERBY. HE HAD FOUR BROTHERS AND FOUR SISTERS, WHO ALL LIVED IN DERBY.
A LABOURER. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 1 INCH TALL, 112 LBS WEIGHT, 34-36 INCH CHEST. HE MARRIED, AT NORMANTON CHURCH, DERBY 24/12/1910. HIS WIFE MINNIE CATHLEEN WEAVING, LIVED AT 7 MINNIES GROVE, BIELBY STREET, HULL (ARMY RECORDS ADDRESS), WITH THEIR THREE SONS. BIELBY STREET, WAS LOCATED OFF HAWTHORNE AVENUE, HULL (NOW DEMOLISHED).
HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 24/03/1915, AGED 25 YEARS AND 11 MONTHS. JOINED THE 1ST KINGS ROYAL RIFLE CORPS. TRAINED AT WINCHESTER. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 13/07/1915. WOUNDED BY SHRAPNEL IN THE RIGHT ARM ON 24/05/1916. REJOINED THE BATTALION, ON 19/08/1916. REPORTED WOUNDED, MISSING, AND KILLED IN ACTION, AT THE SOMME, ON 14/11/1916. AGED 26. HE IS COMMEMORATED AT THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, MINNE, WHO BECAME MRS STEPHENSON, AND MOVED TO 1 GILBERT AVENUE, HALTEMPRICE STREET, HAWTHORNE AVENUE, HULL. AND THEN TO 20 LORNE TERRACE, ALEXANDRA STREET, HULL.
HE LEFT FOUR BROTHERS, AND FOUR SISTER, LIVING IN DERBY.
