Bond, William Augustus

BORN HULL, 12/08/1890. SON OF THOMAS BOND (1868-1942) & EDITH JULIA BOND (1865-1890), OF HULL, OTTRINGHAM AND COTTINGHAM. HE HAD ONE BROTHER AND TWO SISTERS. WORKED AS A RAILWAY CLERK, LIKE HIS FATHER.

HE EMIGRATED TO CANADA, IN 1914. ENLISTED IN CANADA, ON 23/09/1914. JOINED THE 11TH COLUMBIA BLACK WATCH. A CANADIAN SCOTTISH REGIMENT. UNIT SAILED TO ENGLAND ON 03/10/1914. TRAINED AT TIDWORTH IN ENGLAND, BEFORE POSTED TO FRANCE. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 8 INCHES TALL, 140 LBS WEIGHT, 34 INCH CHEST, DARK HAIR, BROWN EYES, DARK COMPLEXION, CHURCH OF ENGLAND RELIGION.

HE TRANSFERRED TO THE 7TH BATTALION, IN THE FIELD. WAS SHOT IN THE CHEST AND DIED OF WOUNDS, AS A PRISONER OF WAR, ON 04/05/1915, AGED 24.
HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE COTTINGHAM WAR MEMORIAL. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE RETURNED HIS FATHER, THOMAS, IN ENGLAND.
HE IS BURIED AT ROESELARE COMMUNAL CEMETERY, BELGIUM.
