BORN HULL 1890. SON OF LATE WALTER JAMES (1861-1918) & JANE ELIZABETH BONEWELL (1862-1902), OF 97 DAY STREET, HULL. HIS FATHER WAS A COOPER FOREMAN AND REMARRIED. HIS STEP MOTHER WAS EVA MARIA BONEWELL (NEE VENUS), OF 33 GEE STREET, HULL, WHO LOST TWO BROTHERS IN THE WAR – ALBERT VENUS (1894-1915) AND HERBERT VENUS (1897-1916).

A FORMER PLUMBER, SYDNEY LIVED AT 97, DAY STREET, HULL AND WAS EMPLOYED BY THE WILSON SHIPPING LINE BEFORE THE WAR. HE WAS UNMARRIED.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL IN LATE AUGUST 1914. HE  DIED OF PNEUMONIA ON 02/04/1919, AGED 29, AFTER 3 YEARS IN EGYPT SERVING WITH THE EAST RIDING YEOMANRY.

HIS BURIAL WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL. HE IS BURIED IN HULL WESTERN CEMETERY. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE SHARED BETWEEN HIS THREE BROTHERS HERBERT, MAURICE AND JOHN, AND HIS SISTERS MABEL AND STEP MOTHER EVA. HIS FATHER HAD DIED ON 27/06/1918.
